Crestwood School District Presents at the 2024 Michigan Association of School Boards Leadership Conference
Today, Friday, October 25, 2024, we had the honor of attending and presenting at the 2024 Michigan Association of School Boards (MASB) Annual Leadership Conference at the Lansing Center. Superintendent Dr. Youssef Mosallam, Associate Superintendent Andria O’Hara, and Climate, Culture, and Communication Coordinator Rashid Baydoun led a powerful session titled “Building a Strong Culture with Restorative Practices.”
The presentation engaged locally elected board members and administrators from across Michigan, focusing on how restorative practices have been instrumental in transforming school culture at Crestwood. Our team shared practical strategies for fostering positive relationships, addressing conflict, and promoting accountability, all while building an inclusive environment where students feel supported and empowered.
It was an incredible opportunity to showcase Crestwood’s commitment to developing meaningful change, and we are grateful for the chance to exchange ideas with education leaders across the state. Thank you to the MASB for organizing this inspiring event and giving us a platform to share the impactful work happening within our district!

At tonight’s Crestwood Board of Education meeting, Superintendent Dr. Youssef Mosallam was honored with special recognition for receiving the 2024 Superintendent of the Year award from the National Association of School Superintendents. Board President Danielle Elzayat presented Dr. Mosallam with two plaques—one on behalf of the Crestwood Board of Education and another on behalf of David Knezek from the Wayne County Commissioner’s office, as Knezek was out sick.
Brian Paul, a 4th grade teacher at Highview Elementary and representative of the Crestwood Federation of Teachers, and Jennifer Ray, Crestwood High School’s Activity Director and Testing Coordinator, both delivered heartfelt speeches praising Dr. Mosallam’s leadership. Their words reflected the deep admiration held by Crestwood’s staff for his impact on the district.
Last week, Dr. Mosallam was also recognized at the Dearborn Heights City Council meeting.
Dr. Mosallam’s entire family was present, including his parents, in-laws, children, aunts, and extended family, making the evening even more meaningful. We continue to celebrate the achievements of our district and applaud Dr. Mosallam for his tireless efforts in making Crestwood a great place to work, learn, and grow.
Today’s professional development at Crestwood High School with Dr. Dorina Sackman-Ebuwa, known as “The Lab Coat Teacher” and affectionately called “Miss Dorito” by her students, inspired every staff member across our district. A Nationally Recognized Educator and Florida Teacher of the Year, Dorina empowered us with strategies to create culturally responsible classrooms through the lens of emotional intelligence (EI) and deep connection to our students’ backgrounds. Her message emphasized that teaching goes beyond academics—it’s about building relationships that honor students’ experiences and using our “teacher lens” to truly see and support them.
Dorina’s B.E.L.I.E.V.E.!® philosophy—Be the Educators who Lead to Inspire and Empower Via Excellence—challenged us to intentionally shape our classrooms by acknowledging and valuing the diversity of our students. Through differentiated instruction, fostering community connections, and practical strategies for inclusive learning, she reminded us of the power we have to make a difference not only academically, but socially and emotionally. This professional development has left us motivated and equipped to lead with purpose and heart.
Hello Crestwood Families,
All schools will be closed on Monday, October 14, 2024, so our staff can attend a professional development day. Central Office will stay open for enrollment assistance, but only by appointment.
Thank you for your continued support!

Crestwood School District’s Homecoming was a heartwarming celebration of what it means to be a Charger for life. Students from Hillcrest, Highview, Kinloch, Riverside, and Crestwood High, along with parents, staff, and community members, all came together in unity.
The parade and game showcased the talents of our band, robotics team, Riverside football and cheerleaders, Crestwood cheer, CCEF, PTAs, firefighters, police, and local leaders, all proudly supporting one strong community. This year, we honored Dr. Youssef Mosallam, NASS 2024 Superintendent of the Year, making the celebration even more special.
The Crestwood Alumni Association, as always, added the perfect touch, judging floats and joining in the festivities, reminding us that Homecoming is about coming back to where it all began. A special thank you to Mrs. Jen Ray, Student Council, Student Government, Mrs. Diana Johns, NHS, and all our guests for making this year’s Homecoming an unforgettable Charger tradition!
Crestwood High kicked off Homecoming at the our multipurpose facility and field with exciting games like tug-of-war, potato sack races, and tic-tac-toe, where the seniors claimed victory. The band delivered a fantastic performance, and the festivities concluded with the naming of the 2024 Grand Marshal, Mr. Hackney. Congratulations to the senior class for also winning Spirit Week and earning the most total points!
