In the Crestwood District, not wide or vast, The Grinch’s journey was quite a blast. On the nineteenth of December, a day to remember, The Grinch paid a visit to Kinloch, so tender. Jill Marvaso, the principal, so clever and bright, Transformed into Cindy-Lou Who, to the Grinch’s fright. With a smile so warm, and eyes sparkling with glee, She was set to change what the Grinch’s heart could be. “Welcome, Mr. Grinch,” Cindy-Lou said with cheer, “To Kinloch Elementary, we’re glad you’re here! With letters from students, and banners in view, We’ll show you the joy that can certainly ensue.” Randy Brooks was there too, a helper so grand, Assisting Cindy-Lou to take a firm stand. The Who-kids, with pens, had written with glee, Letters of warmth, for the Grinch to see. Their handmade cards, so vibrant and bright, Filled the halls with a magical light. Teachers and staff, in a line so grand, With their little Whos, hand in hand, Shared songs and stories, in the candle’s glow, Hoping their love would make the Grinch’s heart grow. Now, every Who in the district knows, Of the day the Grinch’s heart rose. Thanks to Cindy-Lou, and all, The Grinch’s heart grew three sizes that fall. As he left Kinloch, his heart full of cheer, The Grinch carried with him memories so dear. In this last stop, where the Koalas play, He’d found the true meaning of the holiday.

STUDENTS FOR THE CHILDREN OF GAZA CHARITY VOLLEYBALL MATCH + BAKE SALE Last evening, Edsel Ford High School in Dearborn, MI, witnessed a remarkable gathering of students, educators, and community leaders for a heartening cause. The Charity Volleyball Match and Bake Sale, aimed at supporting the Palestinian Children Relief Fund, saw participation from Edsel Ford, Dearborn High, Fordson, and particularly Crestwood High Schools. From 6 to 8 PM, the school echoed with cheers and support, not just for the teams playing but for a cause that reaches far beyond the borders of Dearborn. This event highlighted the unifying power of sports and community in supporting global humanitarian efforts. The Crestwood community’s involvement was particularly noteworthy. District Superintendent Dr. Mosallam, embodying both leadership and sportsmanship, served as an enthusiastic line judge. His presence was a significant morale booster for everyone involved. Adding to the spirit of the evening were Crestwood Teachers Sabah Hadous and Sharifa Bazzi, who joined in, exemplifying the commitment of educators to both their community and global causes. Alongside them, Trustee Billy Amen, Crestwood Alumni Commissioner David Knezek, and Councilman Dave Abdallah took to the court, demonstrating that their roles in the community extend well beyond their official capacities. Highview Elementary had a visitor, not so slim, not so tall. ‘Twas the Grinch, you see, making his holiday call! Mayor or Principal Linda Taleb, with a smile so bright, welcomed our green friend, to the children’s delight. In Highview ‘Whoville,’ where laughter rings clear, the Grinch found the joy he missed year after year. Outside the school gates, he stood with pride, the staff and Secretary by his side. ‘Look at the Grinch!’ the children would cheer, ‘He’s much friendlier than he appears!’ But wait, there’s more, in this holiday lore, tomorrow at Hillcrest, excitement galore! The Grinch, on his quest for community cheer, will find Scout & Theo, his dog reindeers so dear. Under Cathy Mitera’s care, they bring joy everywhere. So come one, come all, to see this sight, as the Grinch spreads joy, both day and night!

Wayne County Commissioner Honors Mrs. Randa Abdallah with Teacher of the Month Award In a heartwarming ceremony held at Hillcrest Elementary School, Wayne County Commissioner David Knezek presented the coveted Teacher of the Month Award to Mrs. Randa Abdallah. The hallways were filled with anticipation and applause, with several esteemed guests in attendance, including Dr. Youssef Mosallam, Crestwood School District Superintendent; Dr. Linda Lazar, Associate Superintendent; Nassrine Saad, Principal of Hillcrest Elementary; and Dearborn Heights City Council President and brother of the award recipient, Mr. Dave Abdallah. Commissioner Knezek shared, “The tireless efforts of educators like Mrs. Abdallah play a pivotal role in sculpting the future of our young learners. It’s an honor to do my part in recognizing and applauding the sacrifices and dedication of our teachers - all of whom go above and beyond every single day.” A proud 2004 graduate of the Crestwood School District, and having pursued a teaching career before entering government, Mr. Knezek spoke from the heart, emphasizing the importance of supporting educators and the field of education. Echoing these sentiments, Dr. Youssef Mosallam conveyed his elation. “Our district thrives because of the phenomenal staff who make it what it is. Celebrating the achievements of individuals like Mrs. Abdallah isn’t just an act of recognition; it’s a testament to our district’s strength and individuality.” Dr. Mosallam’s words resonated with everyone present, highlighting the collective pride of the Crestwood community. Mrs. Abdallah’s journey in the Crestwood District is nothing short of inspiring. Beginning as a lunch monitor and then transitioning to a para-professional role, it was Mrs. Andria O’Hara, now the Associate Superintendent, who spotted her potential and encouraged her to pursue a teaching certificate. Today, Mrs. Abdallah is an instrumental figure in the district, serving as the Instructional Math Coach at both Hillcrest Elementary and Riverside Middle School. The day was marked by heartfelt speeches, rounds of applause, and a strong sense of community. It underscored the importance of recognizing and celebrating those who dedicate their lives to the noble profession of teaching. From all of us at Crestwood School District, a hearty congratulations to Mrs. Randa Abdallah. Your dedication, hard work, and passion for teaching is an inspiration to us all.

Huntington Bank and The Arab American News Invest in Crestwood High School’s Future Leaders On the morning of October 10, 2023, Crestwood High School in Dearborn Heights, MI, welcomed esteemed guests Gary Torgow, Chairman of Huntington National Bank, and Osama Siblani, Editor and Publisher of The Arab American News. Their visit marks the collaborative effort between their respective institutions to fund the F.L.I.P. Scholarship, a testament to their commitment to investing in the futures of young leaders. Crestwood District Superintendent, Dr. Youssef Mosallam, and the school’s Principal, Roni Abdulhadi, greeted the visitors with heartfelt enthusiasm. Together with Crestwood’s shining seniors, LaChelle Moreland-Jones, Isabella Jomaa, and Manar Hariri, they shared the heart and soul of what it means to be a Crestwood Charger. “As a Crestwood Charger, it’s more than just attending a school; it’s about being a part of a family that nurtures leadership and success,” said Dr. Mosallam. “Our commitment to student success is evident, and with the support from F.L.I.P. Scholarship, we’re ensuring a brighter future for our students in higher education.” When inquired by Mr. Torgow about his ascent to his esteemed role, Principal Abdulhadi, with genuine humility, responded, “My unwavering commitment to student success and the leadership opportunities provided by Dr. Mosallam led me here. Yet, it’s imperative to underscore the relentless efforts of our dedicated counseling team, especially Mrs. Shadia Berry. Their consistent guidance has paved the way for our students to secure spots in the nation’s most illustrious institutions.” The morning progressed with an insightful tour of the new Athletic Complex, led by Jeff Hachigan. The complex, according to Dr. Mosallam, “Symbolizes the unity of our district. By investing in facilities like this, we not only enhance our students’ experiences but also strengthen our community.” Osama Siblani expressed his admiration for the accomplishments of the Crestwood team, especially after witnessing the splendor of the new complex. “It’s truly inspiring to see how much Crestwood has achieved. This complex is a testament to that.” The visit concluded with a special treat for the guests—a welcoming message displayed on the school’s state-of-the-art sports scoreboard screen. This collaboration between Huntington Bank, The Arab American News, and Crestwood High School signifies a promising step forward in supporting the next generation of leaders. As Crestwood High continues to flourish, there’s no doubt that its students will be at the forefront of change, embodying the spirit of a true Crestwood Charger.
